 Passions

Passion

If you cannot find Amour …then discover a more intense Passion, a musical by Stephen Sondheim & James Lapine. After more than a year spent unsuccessfully trying to acquire the rights to Michel Legrand’s Amour, ESP is instead tackling Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine’s Tony Award-winning Passion.

The wondrously complex landscape of the human heart is the subject of this haunting, intensely emotional story. Set on a remote military outpost in 1863 Italy, a handsome army captain, separated from his beautiful – but married – mistress, is forced to re-evaluate his beliefs about love when he becomes the object of the obsessive, unrelenting passions of Fosca, his Colonel’s plain, sickly cousin.

Tickets will go on sale for this delightful musical July 6, 2009. Brought to you by the team of Producers Jeff Boatright and Nanette Reynolds, Director Gloria DuGan (Multiple WATCH Awards) and Music Director Elisa Rosman (Multiple WATCH Nominations)

Performance dates 10/23 to 11/14/09

That’s right, we are doing two musicals again next season! Rather than adding this hilarious satire of musical theater as a sixth show next season, we decided it was the perfect opener for our season. Whether you know musicals or not you are going to love it! Tickets will go on sale in October 1.

The Violet Hour

by Richard Greenberg
Directed by Rosemary Hartman
Performance dates 1/22 – 2/13/10

This is one of those plays that is hard to describe without giving too much away. With parts comedy, tragedy, puzzle and even some sci-fi, this wonderful gem of a show has been a hit with audiences everywhere. The perfect remedy for the winter chill. Tickets will go on sale January 2, 2010.

Metamorphoses

ESP is thrilled to present the Washington Area Premier of this challenging but beautiful retelling of Ovid’s tales. This wonderful show can only be performed in theaters where the audience can look down onto the stage. Why? Because much of it takes place in a pool of water. This show was a Tony nominee that wowed the critics and audience. Tickets will go on sale in March 2010.

Wit

By Margaret Edson
Directed by Gloria DuGan

RENT
